Drug trafficking is high in the state of New York, because of its proximity to international boundaries, as well as the quick access to major highways, airports, and waterways. These quick entry and exit levels in and out of New York make it easy for the cartels to smuggle drugs. Because of the great access to each mode of transportation, drug transporting regarding to its selling and distribution in New York is both an intense and large business.
State and federal law enforcement have joined together to attempt to reduce drug smuggling in New York. Although steps are being taken to fight this illegal activity, it will take a few years to really get control of these problems.
It is not just the illegal issues of drug activity, but other aspects, that are the result of drug peddling, as follows:
• Crimes resulting from drug activities
Rapes, burglaries, thefts. Murders, among others are the result of drug related activities, and these issues are left to the New York law enforcement to handle and/ or solve.
• Health related issues resulting from drugs
From “over dosing” to herpes, Aides, Hepatitis, etc, these illnesses are prevalent among drug users, because of illicit activities related to unprotected sex and other promiscuous actions.
• Monies spent due to drug trafficking
New York spends a huge sum of monies each year to prevent, treat, cure, and curtail drug activities. As drug use is reduced, so will the problems that go “hand in hand” with it. As these problems decrease, New York’s financial burdens will also lessen, thus making it a state of more profitability.
Another reason that New York experiences a high volume of drug activity is its metropolitan cities. Here, the great mass of people makes it easier for drug trafficking to take place unnoticed. The population is so great that it is hard to keep track of drug problems, until they have infiltrated. Law enforcement is attempting to “fight the drug problems”; however it is an ongoing one! This is why this battle is such a financial drain on the state of New York.
