Last Updated on Monday, 20 December 2010 01:55 Written by Sam Wednesday, 22 December 2010 12:05
Heroin is on the rise, especially in the state of New York. Many think that the reason for this is its accessibility, due to the metropolitan areas. In these large cities, like N YC, the population is so dense that drug dealers can always find those weakened individuals to sell their illicit drugs to. This is why these pushers frequent large cities. The same holds true for users; they go to the metropolitan areas because drugs are so prevalent. So, it is an endless cycle, pertaining to drugs, which now seems to focus upon heroin.
Heroin is sold in stamps. These stamps consist of wax paper which is folded twice and stamped with a decorative illustration and/ or text. They include some of the following:
- Purple City
- Frank Lucas
- All Star
- No Limit
- Green Needle
These stamps can also be purchased by the “bun”. For example, 5 buns are the equivalent to 10 stamps. For those addicts who desire a large number of stamps, “bricks” are the preferred method of which to buy heroin. A brick consists of 50 stamps and costs approximately $375 to $400.
Since heroin’s popularity has increased across the United States over the past 3 or 4 years, New York is not alone in dealing with this illicit drug, and is committed in doing so. There are 4 ways that seem to be helping in decreasing the use of heroin, as follows:
- Prevention
Preventive measures in the state of New York are accomplished through education beginning with grade school age children & moving upward to adults. Structured programs are responsible for teaching the dangers that go with heroin use and/ or addiction.
- Treatment
For those already addicted individuals, treatment centers are available throughout New York. These facilities are licensed with trained medical staffs to help wean addicts off of opiates, like heroin. This is done with the help of methadone and/ or Seboxin. These doses are administered on a daily basis, with the patients decreasing their doses over a period of time.
- Punishment
With stricter punishment, law enforcement officials can help individuals to think before they use or sell drugs. The thought of “going to prison” is sometimes enough to keep individuals from engaging in the illicit activities that go along with heroin.
- After Treatment
“After treatment” and “support groups” are good to help those individuals to keep from relapsing after they have completed their treatment programs.
Since heroin is so addictive, all of the above methods are used by New York officials in hopes of decreasing heroin activity within their state.

The drug trail is “hot and heavy” to and from New York, where this substance can be bought and sold with little or no trouble at all. From metropolitan areas, such as NYC to rural areas in upstate New York, cocaine is abundant.
Many individuals ask why the law enforcement authorities of New York don’t do more to stop the use, possession, sale, and trafficking of cocaine. The answer is a little complicated; they are doing as much as possible to curtail cocaine within the borders of this state. However, it can be compared to a revolving door; when one drug ring gets busted; there is another one to take its place. It is a “never-ending” battle. Do the authorities of New York get frustrated? Yes, however they do not give up. Their persistence and dedication regarding the reduction of cocaine in New York is getting results, but they are slow-coming.

New York’s Drug Scene
Last Updated on Monday, 6 December 2010 01:14 Written by Sam Wednesday, 8 December 2010 12:02
The state of New York is concerned about its street drug scene, where illicit drugs are prevalent. These drugs cause many health problems, from Hepatitis C to Aids, since needles are sometimes used, which are the culprit for diseases, such as these. One of the most popular illicit drugs in New York currently is heroin. This drug is so intense that its addictive nature can be discovered after just one or two doses. This is one of the factors that make it so very dangerous.
Heroin is sold is the form of stamps. Here, the illicit substance is placed on wax paper and folded two times, where a stamp is placed. These stamps have colorful illustrations on them, along with catchy “texts”. Words, such as: Frank Lucas”, Green Needle”, “All Star”, “and Purple City’, among many others can be found. They are used to further entice the addicted individuals, although it does not take much motivation to encourage those persons already addicted. For those individuals who want larger supplies, “bricks” are sold. One “brick” is equivalent to 50 stamps, costing approximately $375-$400, dependent upon the location where it is sold. It has been observed that the larger metropolitan areas sell heroin for less than other areas, due to its prevalence and/or competition among dealers.
One reason that heroin is a “fad” is related to the gangster movies that readily glamorize the use of heroin. One such movie that stimulates the use of heroin pertains to “Frank Lucas”. which is a popular illustration that is put on stamps.
With its metropolitan areas, such as New York and Buffalo, among others, the accessibility of heroin is abundant. In the state of New York. With access to major highways, waterways, railways, and the Canadian International Border, heroin can be easily transported into New York. The law officials are busy attempting to stop the trafficking of this harmful substance; however the process is long term. In the meantime, many individuals are falling victim to heroin., making New York easy prey for crime, including robberies, thefts, rapes, murders, as well as Dui charges, that many times lead to fatalities. Once this illicit drug is greatly curtailed, New York predicts that its residents will be safer.

New York and its Senior Oxycontin Addiction Problems
Last Updated on Tuesday, 30 November 2010 11:59 Written by Sam Wednesday, 1 December 2010 12:01
Many “Baby Boomers” are concerned with keeping healthy. With good insurance and Medicare coverage, doctor’s fees and those associated with prescription meds are not a problem. ‘Baby Boomers” have no financial problem associated with medical care in New York, as well as other states around the country. Since most physicians are not concerned with the addition of these senior citizens, Oxycontin is prescribed rather freely, primarily because they feel that they will not abuse its use. A lot of older individuals deal with excruciating pain, resulting from surgeries, breakages, or ailments like arthritis to name a few. Once they explain to their doctors the degree of pain that they have on a scale of 1 to 10, with “10” being the most severe, and they say that their pain is 9 or 10, “Oxycontin” is usually prescribed.
The medical staff explains the dangers of the addiction of this powerful drug and then this older patient confidently leaves the office, never dreaming that his/her next visit will probably include asking for a refill of “Oxycontin”, thus leading to an addiction problem. The sad aspect related to this entire process, is that the thought of addiction never crosses their minds.
The worst thing about these 65+ addicts is that most addiction problems go unnoticed, since these seniors feel that they are explicitly following the instructions related to this drug. The problem is that they are taking the drug too long. New York officials are putting a lot of the blame on the physicians for not monitoring their patients enough. Of course, these older patients should also report their addiction and/ or need for this drug when they first experience this overwhelming desire for it… Although other states in America are finding that they have a similar problem, many are not doing anything about it. New York, however, seems to be implementing programs to help lessen these problems. Both prevention and treatment for the addiction of “Oxycontin” have been implemented by the state of New York. Now that this problem is diagnosed, positive results are in the near future… Although there is much work to be done, progress is being made!
