Alcohol abuse seems to be widespread in New York. This state has many large metropolitan areas where the selling and/ or distribution of alcohol are prevalent. Let’s face it; the selling of alcohol is a profitable business, both by the bottle and by the drink. Super markets, drugstores, and liquor stores all have a sizeable mark – up on bottles of beer, wine, and liquor. Many individuals who entertain or just drink at home prefer to buy their alcohol by the bottle, since this is less expensive than buying their alcohol by the drink. They are free to mix their drinks or drink them straight. Some people feel that if they do this, they will drink too much, so they prefer to go to a club or restaurant and purchase their alcohol by the drink. Here, they can socialize and enjoy their favorite alcoholic beverage in good company.
Whichever the scenario, one can become an alcoholic either way. The determining factors are related to the frequency in which you drink, coupled by the quantity that you drink. Of course, the strength of the alcohol is also a contributing factor. Since New York has many large cities, bars are abundant, as are restaurants that sell fancy and mouth watering drinks. These drinks act as incentives to individuals to purchase them. There are so many temptations that the weak willed individuals sometimes fall prey to these vices and become addicted to both the atmosphere, as well as the taste that later acts as a devastating crutch for them. Because of these factors, New York has more alcoholics than smaller states, mainly because there are not only more people, but there are more places to buy this alcohol.
New York is attempting to prevent the abuse of alcohol and to cure those already addicted individuals. The methods for prevention are as follows:
- Educating the residents of the state of New York about the regulations pertaining to the ages related to the drinking and buying and / or selling of alcoholic beverages
- Implementing the punishments reserved by New York pertaining to DUI’s and other crimes related to the abuse of alcohol
The methods implemented to help cure those individuals already addicted are as follows:
- Making certain that alcohol rehab centers are operated by certified and trained medical professionals who are dedicated to helping individuals overcoming their addiction to this hazardous substance
With all of these methods designed to assist individuals in living lives without alcohol, New York is confident that its state is on its way to reducing the problem of alcohol addiction and becoming safer!
