New York Supports Its Dual Diagnostic Treatment Facilities
Last Updated on Friday, 11 February 2011 12:58 Written by Sam Wednesday, 9 February 2011 12:55
An individual in New York who suffers with mental and addictive health issues can experience the benefits of a substance abuse facility, when seeking professional help. However, this person must decide to obtain treatment for an addiction on his/ her own terms, in order for the treatment to have a successful agenda and/ or end result. Many times, an individual is leery or in denial of obtaining the help of a treatment facility, so the inevitable is postponed, due to the fear of the unknown. When this occurs, the mental health and addiction problems of the individual greatly suffer and can lead to harm for both this individual and/ or others concerned.
The team of professionals who work at dual diagnosis treatment centers in Idaho, not only are trained and equipped to treat an individual with these problems, but also strive in mending an individual, who has been torn apart due to addiction and anxiety issues. Phobias and disorders, as well as other psychiatric conditions are treated. These dual treatment facilities are also maintained to treat illnesses along with providing a positive environment for the purpose of maintaining an individual’s wellbeing. The qualified and able staff in dual diagnostic centers can make this possible.
It takes a great deal of courage for an individual, who is in dire need of help, to commit to a dual treatment center. Persons who have an involvement in these facilities, all realize the strength that this commitment takes and are supportive to the individuals, thus engaging assistance when needed. These facilities also specialize in “after care “to help those individuals better cope with life after release from the treatment facility. This may include not only counseling and drug treatments, but also more extensive outpatient treatment curriculums. In other words, an individual can still seek help after release, to prevent a problem or when a problem occurs. This person does not need to feel disserted, but can always experience the strength from the center, due to its continued support and/ or assistance.
All in all, substance abuse rehab centers help in the recovery of anxiety and depression issues that are the result of drug addiction and mental illnesses, thus enabling related individuals to be more productive links of society.

The Facts about the Crystal Meth Problem in the State of New York
Last Updated on Monday, 24 January 2011 11:14 Written by Sam Wednesday, 26 January 2011 12:02
Crystal Meth, a stimulant that is addictive, was a problem in New York a few years ago and has returned today to the drug scene, especially in the metropolitan areas. It is most commonly referred to as “meth”, but also has a few other names, such as Crystal Meth, Tina, Glass, Ice., etc. It has a long lasting effect that can keep an individual high for as long as 12 hours at a time.
Crystal meth is popular for weight loss, particularly with women. It helps one’s weight to “drop off” fast at first, however after about 6 weeks it loses its effect, and the weight loss comes to a stop.
Crystal meth can be consumed in the following ways:
• Smoked
Meth is usually smoked in a glass pipe, much as is cocaine. After only one smoke, it can be highly addictive, depending on the tolerance level of the user.
• Snorted
Meth can also be sniffed; however this can cause permanent damage to one’s nostrils. Sometimes, a plastic nosepiece must be surgically inserted.
• Injected
Meth can be injected in a dry state or dissolved in water, whichever is preferred. A user is doubly at risk, not only due to the effects of the drug, but also due to the risks of “shooting up”. Quite often, needles are shared and diseases such as hepatitis C, Aids, among others are contracted.
• Inserted
Meth is also sometimes inserted in the anus.
The side effects of Crystal Meth can range from mild to severe, as follows:
Nausea
Increased energy
Diarrhea
Temporary loss of weight
Euphoria
Spells of anger
Rapid teeth decay
The governmental agencies in New York are familiar with Meth and its effects that it has on its residents. These adverse reactions hamper the productivity of these New Yorkers, so for that reason, among others, they are determined to eliminate Crystal Meth within their state. They have implemented both prevention programs, as well as treatment centers to “fight the war” against meth. The prevention agendas include educating individuals early – on in life, whereas the treatment facilities focus on curing the already addicted individuals. Both methods are helping to reduce the number of Meth addicts in the state of New York, however it is a lengthy and frustrating journey; one that New York officials are willing to ride out!

Alone in New York
Last Updated on Monday, 29 March 2010 03:19 Written by Sam Wednesday, 31 March 2010 12:05
Mark just graduated from Kentucky University with honors. After a 5 year engineering program, with endless hours of hard work, he was finally ready to begin a lucrative career. A degree in safety engineering was not an easy task, but one that required much dedication and concentration. Mark had his nose to the grindstone, and the party scene was not in his agenda, so he had a clean slate, so to speak. With a wonderful recommendation from Kentucky University, coupled with a 3.85 GPA, Mark had no trouble finding a job, and guess where? In the exciting city of New York. He was thrilled, since he had landed a position with Proctor and Gamble in NYC as a safety engineer in one of its largest most productive plants in the eastern part of the U.S.
Mark took all of the necessary steps related to finding an apartment in a respectable neighborhood of NYC that was known for its security and non- violent activity. His move was easy since he had very little to transport, due to the fact that his apartment was furnished. His first week on the job was motivating as he became familiar with his job description, fellow employees, as well as daily tasks. However, after a few weeks on the job, Mark became lonely. He left a high powered interesting job, only to return to an empty apartment each night, where he was surrounded by nothing but loneliness. Mark was not a party animal, so every night became a little of the same! He began picking up some alcoholic beverages to help him relax at home. At first it was only one drink, however as time went on, the one drink became 2, and so on. He did not consider himself to have a problem, because he never missed work, or was even late for work. His activities related to drinking were not evident, since he had no friends that he interacted with other than work.
One day, Mark became interested in a female employee on a personal level. After a few dates, their relationship became serious and she began visiting him at his apartment. His drinking habits were immediately apparent to Mindy, his new friend. They talked openly about his habit, and he decided that he did have an alcohol problem. He began attending Alcoholic Anonymous, and with the support and assistance of Mindy worked to overcome his addiction.
Mindy and Mark are now married with 2 children, Josh age 3 and Bryan, age 1. Mark realizes that there is no time for alcohol in his busy and happy life. He attributes his addiction to loneliness and his cure to the love that he and Mindy share. Mark and Mindy work as a team and are devoted to their family, as well as to Mark’s continued recovery from alcohol addiction.

Last Updated on Tuesday, 2 March 2010 04:39 Written by Sam Friday, 5 March 2010 12:20
New York City and state are known for their high population. This means it provides services that cannot be found elsewhere in the same manner or variety. In some cases, the availability of services can include heath related services that are critical to those that might be in serious need of such services. For those that suffer from issues related to alcohol and drug use, the availability of drug and alcohol rehab centers makes the ability to deal with such problems much less difficult than it would be in other regions of the country.
Those that may be curious as to what type of rehab services are available in the New York area will discover that there are many different ways in which such services can be administered. For example, some rehab centers may operate on an outpatient venture. That means the patient would visit the rehab center one or more days a week for a certain number of sessions.
Then, there are those services which can require extended overnight stays. Some will check into 30 or 60 day rehab programs. These programs would be the most beneficial to those that might have severe substance abuse issues. Additionally, such care provides access to medical professionals that are on staff or on call to the facility. Depending upon the severity of the addiction, access to such medical professionals may prove extremely helpful.
Some rehab centers also offering mentoring programs. As the name implies, this refers to programs where a former rehab patient can mentor an individual that is a current enrollee. Often, working with someone who has ‘been there’ can prove to be the most helpful means of discovering a way out of addictive behavior. This does have a great benefit for the person who is the mentor as well. Namely, by staying involved with the program, it becomes possible to forever stay on the path of being sober since the mentor is remaining actively involved in the rehab program. Obviously, maintaining such an affiliation has its benefits.
Yes, there is much variety to the type of drug and alcohol rehab programs found in New York. Finding one akin to your own situation may not prove difficult.
